Photography Projects

Personal photography projects allow sustained attention to place and time, revealing the subtle layers of memory, culture, and change within everyday life.

Katong & Joo Chiat:
Colours of Continuity and Change

Joo Chiat is one of Singapore’s most interesting neighbourhoods. The area developed during the first half of the 1900s, when it became popular among several of Singapore’s diverse communities. In the 1990s, it became Singapore’s first heritage district, with over 500 buildings gazetted for conservation. More recently, the area has seen significant gentrification and houses many boutiques, coffee shops, and restaurants. In 2025, Joo Chiat Road was named by Time Out as one of the coolest streets in the world.

LRPS Panel

My journey to successfully passing the RPS Licentiate Distinction began with the 10-week Digital Photography course with the OU. I wanted to stretch myself as a photographer, fix the errors that had crept in over the years of taking photos with no formal training, and of course, the recognition of receiving a distinction from a well-respected photographic society gave me a huge confidence boost and sense of validation in my path as a photographer.
