Hi, I'm Kamsin

I am a British photographer and writer based in Singapore. My work explores faith, material culture, and the passage of time — examining how belief is shaped by the places we inhabit, and how those places are reshaped by time.

1. Look for your favourite colour or colours! Look for one strong colour, bonus if it’s surrounded by more neutral colours making it really standout. Examples: • a red object against a grey wall • a yellow chair on a pavement • a person wearing bright clothing • a blue door in a white building2. Look for shadows and photograph the shadow, not the object.Shadows are everywhere and instantly make photos more interesting.Examples of what to photograph: • your own shadow • shadows of trees • shadows on walls • shadows from railings or fences3. Look for one thing by itself. Fill the frame with one main thing.The world is full of details that are easy to overlook. Photography is an art that takes time, skill and patience. Use whatever gear you have to hand. If “all” you have is a phone learn how to use it to its maximum potential. There’s a ton of apps that can help with this.Expensive gear won’t fix fundamental problems in your skills or technical knowledge. Upgrading your kit won’t magically make you a better photographer.Take classes, find teachers you can learn from on YouTube, buy a book to work through. And practice, practice, practice. P.S. This is an old DSLR (that I bought second hand) with a kit lens. It’s still a really great camera and it was the best I could afford at the time. But a newer camera won’t make me more patient, or help me to understand the settings or rules of composition better. I’d love a new lens or two but this lens does a lot and while a new lens might help me capture a greater range of images, it won’t fix my errors for me. #canon90d_photography #womeninphotography #photographytipsandtricks #beginnerphotography

Things change all the time, and it can seem unpredictable and hard to figure out how to grow.But after gaining 1K followers in a little over 2 weeks what is clear to me is that community and connections are just as important and strong as ever. As I continue to develop my “style” as a photograp

As I continue to develop my “style” as a photographer, I’m getting a stronger sense of what subjects and spaces I most enjoy working with. Fast moving events like a street festival don’t suit my preference to slow down, pay attention to the quiet everyday details and observe people in moments of pause, and transition. So my view of Thaipusam isn’t the spectacle of the event itself, but the street markets where members of the community in Little India prepared for the event. #thaipusam #littleindia #womeninstreet #womeninstreetsg #singaporestreets
