An adventure begins…Young Living Essential Oils

Why me? Why Essential Oils?

I never thought I would be sitting here today writing about Essential Oils. Even less did I think I would be embarking on an adventure as an Independent Distributor with Young Living.
But life takes unexpected turns. Sometimes you don’t know what you were looking for until it finds you. And sometimes you need to be open to an 180-degree change in the way you think and see the world.

Living with stress and skin issues Essential Oil Seeker

Aromatherapy and complimentary medicines are something which has interested me for a long time. When I was younger, it was always from a distance. Something I would learn about one day.
I grew up with the bias that science and modern medicine had the answers we need to maintain our health. But I never went to the doctor. I always ignored and lived with medical issues like chronic eczema.
Until around 7 or 8 years ago. Due in large part to stress and poor diet my eczema flared up badly. I started a journey into managing the condition with nutrition and natural products.
I cut out sugar, especially in drinks and started taking vitamins. I reduced milk and the amount of bread I was eating. My skin began to improve. I was using steroid creams from the doctor too. But they only work for so long.
This was the start of my journey into realizing that doctors might not always have the whole story. Steroid creams and antihistamines might reduce my symptoms in the short term. But there was no consideration of a long-term solution which might help to break the cycle.

Essential Oils for Sleep

Fast forward to sometime last year. My son was struggling to sleep. Growing pains and nightmares and who knows what. He was also getting croup repeatedly. He also struggles with eczema.
Being a modern mum I googled and searched for solutions. Essential Oils came up again and again in the information I found. I tried several different brands, both to massage on E’s skin and to diffuse in the air.
I had one of those tea light burners and some oils I’d bought in SE Asia. Nothing seemed to help. But for some reason I didn’t give up on the idea of essential oils.
As I kept looking, I kept finding the phrase ‘Therapeutic Grade’. But I’m a cynic, I wasn’t buying this idea. All these people were trying to convince me I needed the more expensive, special type of oils. But it seemed they were set to profit from their advice.

I kept searching, I tried some more brands. Something about the essential oil thing had got hold of me. I kept coming back to Therapeutic Grade.
I’m not going to go into all the ins and outs, as it would take all day. And I’m leaving out one significant part of the story, which hopefully I’ll return to in a later post.
So let’s skip to a couple of months ago. If you’ve been around this blog for a while you’ll know I’ve been looking for ways to generate an income from home. There was a seminar in Tokyo about entrepeneurship. I didn’t look into it much and didn’t realise until I got there that the woman running it sold essential oils. These oils kept following me.
I went home with a sample and had the best nights sleep I’ve had in ages.
Maybe there is something in this therapeutic grade stuff after all… but I didn’t sign up straightaway. I kept researching and trying to gather all the information I could.

Why Young Living? Why a Membership sales model?

Young Living has a retail price and membership (or wholesale) price. Do I really have to be a memeber to get better prices? And how about the business model, why network marketing? Why multilevel? My inner cynic was having a field day with that!

I’m going to have to return to some of these ideas at a later date. They are big ideas which will need more than 800 words. I’ve been opened up to a whole new way of thinking about this…and mostly I got there by myself. No one tried to convince me of it.

I went to a few more seminars with my new Young Living friends. Somewhere along the road it occurred to me that being cynical and critical had not been serving me well.

I went with an open mind. I left feeling energized, uplifted and I wanted those oils!

Now what?

So now here I am. I want to share my knowledge and pass on what I am learning. Yes, I will profit if you sign up. But that isn’t a bad thing! Why did it take me so long to realize that?!

The fact that I am now an Independent Distributor for Young Living means I’m going to do my research. I’m going to keep reading and attending seminars. Which is my idea of fun anyway! This is not about the money for me. Yes, I need an income but I could have gone back to teaching if I only wanted money.

If you want to do your own research I will aim to point you in the direction of reliable information. If you don’t then hit me with your questions and I will do my best to find the answers for you.

P.S. I am now using a blend similar to the one I received as a sample with my son. He would wake up every.single.night screaming for mama. It would be 3 hours to the minute since he fell asleep every night. Now I’m using oils he’s finally sleeping through till morning. No more weird nightmare, or whatver it was that woke him.
